Each piece of fine art jewelry created by DeeDee DeFabio-Lake of Detail Dee'Signs is a unique one-of-a-kind art you'll love to wear!
DeeDee believes her fine art jewelry not only reflects the person who wears it, but is also an extension of herself. Silver, gold, brass, copper, dichroic glass, pewter beads and pearls are but a few of the components used to create Detail Dee'Signs fabulous art jewelry.
What is dichroic glass?
Dichroic glass was originally developed for the aeronautics industry. It must be manufactured in a vacuum chamber where an electron beam deposits many microscopic layers of metallic oxides, such as magnesium and titanium, on glass. This metallic coating absorbs and reflects different colors making the glass multi-hued. The result is a beautiful, sparkly glass showing different colors when viewed at different angles.
Because of the complexity involved in making it, dichroic glass is quite costly, $100 - $200 per square foot. Each piece of art you see has been hand cut, ground for a polished finish and then fired in a kiln for several hours at temperatures ranging from 1325-1600º F. The glass must then cool slowly so it does not crack. Some items have been fused several times to achieve a certain look or color.
What is PMC?
PMC consists of extremely fine, precious metal powder, suspended in an organic binder. When heated to a high temperature, the binder burns off and the metal powder fuses together. When this process is complete, a solid piece of pure silver or gold is produced. Patinas are often added to give the piece added color and dimension.
